R&B singer and Konvict music record label boss, Akon, who was born in Missouri, but grew up between the West African country of Senegal and America, has a net worth of $80 million dollars.
Akon who is the son of percussionist Mor Thiam, Aliaune Thiam, that settled in Jersey City, New Jersey when he was just 15 years, amid his rough teenage years, in the end turned his time and interest in crime to developing his music skills, career, songwriting and recording demos. And after signing with Universal records, he released his debut album, Trouble, in 2004. And under the parent company of Universal, he later co-founded the record label Konvict Muzik in which he released his second and third albums, Konvicted and Freedom, respectively.
The album reached #3 on the US R&B charts and #1 in the UK with 1.6 million albums sold in the US. While his second album Konvicted that was released in 2006 reached #2 on both the Billboard 200 chart and the US R&B chart and #1 in New Zealand with three million copies sold. His third album Freedom that was released in 2008 reached #3 on the US R&B chart. His most successful singles include “Lonely”, “Smack That” (ft Eminem), “I Wanna Love You” (ft Snoop Dogg), and “Don’t Matter”.
Akon who has worked with many successful artists in the music industry including Lady GaGa, Whitney Houston, Gwen Stefani, among many others, bringing his contributing efforts as a guest artist to a staggering total of over 300 appearances, has also ventured into the TV and movie industry with his creativity in a reality show and a movie in the works. He also launched his own urban clothing line, Konvict Clothing, in early 2007.
Akon who has won Artist of the Year for the 2007 Billboard Music Awards and American Music Award has obtained both the number one and two spots on the Billboard Hot 100 twice, alongside many collaborative efforts, has had forty songs hit the Hot 100.
