Grammy-nominated female American rapper, Remy Ma who was a former member of Big Pun’s rap crew, Terror Squad has a net worth of $4 million.
The rapper who is one of the only four female rappers to ever have a number one single on the Billboard Hot 100 chart made this achievement for her contributions to the single “Lean Back.” Remy Ma who was born Reminisce Smith on the 30th of May, 1980 and was brought up in the Castle Hill projects of the Bronx. won two Vibe awards, two Source awards, an ASCAP pop award and a BET award for “Best Female Hip Hop Artist.”
After seeing the repercussions of her family’s drug abuse at an early age, she was forced to take care of her younger brothers and sisters, while she took succour in writing poems. Since this helped her to quickly know all about how hard society was on women and minorities she channeled all her anger by turning her poems into raps that she would use against her schoolmates during lunch. With this she quickly gained a reputation around the Bronx for her rap skills, and eventually had only one meeting with Big Pun who immediately became her mentor and she later made her very first appearance on Big Pun’s album, “Yeeeah Baby.”
Shortly after the sudden demise of the rapper, Big Pun, Remy Ma was immediately signed to Fat Joe’s imprint label under SRC while Universal also made her a member of Terror Squad at the same time. But after she was frustrated with how Universal was promoting her first solo album, Remy decided to end her relationship with Fat Joe and the Terror Squad in 2007, this ultimately terminated her record deal with SRC/Universal in the process. After her exit from Terror Squad, Remy who instantly got new deals and offers from both record companies and TV shows was in negotiations to record her own VH1 reality TV show while she was also busy recording her new album PunisHER that she named after her late mentor, Big Pun.
Sadly for the rapper, all the positive vibes came to an halt after she got involved in a shooting in July of 2007 and according to the Police, while she was with a group of people in front of a nightclub in New York City, a fight broke out and Remy allegedly shot a woman identified as Makeda Barnes-Joseph, for stealing thousands of dollars from her. She was later convicted for assault, illegal weapon possession, and attempted coercion in connection with these charges.
Remy Ma who later got married to her fiancée and rapper Papoose while still in Prison, in December 2015, both started featuring on the popular VH1 reality show Love & Hip Hop New York. While she later dropped a diss track aimed at rapper Nicki Minaj that set the internet on fire in February 2017.
